Just a quick note before I go. Tomorrow I will get on the freighter Peking Senator and be offline for the next ten or so days. I was able to get al my stuff packed and moved but it was just as big of a cluster f**k as I expected. My pop rallied the troops and even the neighbor showed up to lend a hand, but I really should have put my foot down and insisted on using a moving company instead of my step brother hope that food poisoning gets better :-/ I still have lots of cleaning and various details to take care of, but the major obstacles got overcome, so it could have been worse. I need to really buy less stuff, moving sucks, things tie you down...

So I take it this is the big move? The move to Japan?
I got to agree. Things tie you down. When I last moved in 2000, I three people helping me and I had already boxed everything. Things went very, very fast. I had such a small amount of stuff that three people helping me was sort of overkill.
Since that time I've aquired a few more things though. A bed, a printer, another computer another bookcase of books, a table, chairs, etc.
I try periodically to purge old stuff out of my life but sometimes it's hard.

So you'll be on board a container ship? I just looked up the Peking Senator and it's a container ship. Wow! Ten days of staring out at the mighty Pacific! I hope the weather is good at out there. I hear that the ocean, even the Pacific, can be horrifying during bad storms.
I've been meaning to read Levinson's book The Box for many months now. Your trip has re-awakened this desire in me. I'm such a nerd! Why must I be so deeply interested in the infrastructure of modern society? I remember I how I totally geeked out when I want on the hardhat tour of Hoover Dam. I read a bunch of books about it and everything.
Remember when I sent that mail about how long it would take for the power plants to break down and cease delivering electricity if the end times came and plague of zombies terrorized the Earth?
I'm such a dweeb!
